Shock Treatment

I was about a paragraph through writing a rant complaining about how boring and predictable sports has been lately, then I realized that the Pistons were still leading late in the game. So I figured I'd watch to see how they would blow it. Problem is they didn't cooperate. They want to shock the world. Well done for game one. Lets get 3 more of those and me and Red can light up one for old times sake.

I'm still holding up a sign that says "Here we are, now entertain us" to the sporting community. Smarty lost, baseball is in full mid-season (yawn) form, June cuts and mini-camps are all there is to help the NFL junkie get through the summer and nobody cared about hockey in the first place. If I somehow find myself in front of a TV set for the Cup game 7 it will mark the first game I’ve seen all year, and probably the last anyone will see for many moons.

But this Finals series could be just what the doctor (not Rivers) ordered. That is the beautiful thing about sport isn't it? We're never too far away from a great story. I'm starting to wonder if the Pistons have a little of that '02 Pats aura about them where they just started rolling at the end of the season and just never stopped rolling till they had won it against all odds.

Get me through this stretch with some Finals drama, and we'll be ready for the NBA Draft. Normally I'm buzzing on the NBA Draft full force about this time, but this year is a little different. Even though my C's have 3 picks, I'm finding it hard to formulate strong opinions on the players they could pick. What fun is it when you can't call your GM a moron for passing on the guy you really covet? We used to know who these guys were and we used to at least put a name with a face. Now if we know your name and face, you must not be very good. 20 year olds are old and washed up and must have maxed out their talent in college because they dared to test the waters of the collegiate campus. The NBA Draft is sadly going the way of baseball and hockey and that is tragic. Of course, I'll still watch.

Beyond that, there is the expansion draft that probably will stir up the rumor mill something fierce, but will likely end up a little disappointing. Before long it will be time to start jonesing for any and all fantasy football information, then baseball will come down the stretch and all will be good in the world once again. But first...

...Beat LA! Beat LA! Beat LA!
