Yao News Like a Yo Yo
One story from hoopsworld speculates that talks with the Chinese may have hit a new snag due to defection paranoia. So there are all sorts of fun things that could happen as a result (draft Jay Williams, trade him for Kandi or hold him ransom from the Bulls). However, I wouldn't believe the hype since the story states no real source and happens to be written by the "RocketGuy.com" I'm sure he's a great fan of the team, and probably a decent writer, but I'm more inclined to believe the boys over at ClutchCity.net that have reported as late as last night that talks are growing "close."
As fun as it would be to see a shake up at the top of the draft, I think we are close to a done deal. Yao certainly has his detractors (like RocketGuy it seems), and skeptics (like me), but he has a great chance to become a real force in the league someday. Its real hard to pass on a guy this big, with this amount of talent. Then again (and this is the skeptic in me), what is so special about a 7'5" if he has short arms and no real hops. You mean to tell me that he'll get his shot off consistently against Kevin Garnett? Or that he'll be able to post up Shaq? I understand that he's supposedly much more skilled than Shawn Bradley, but size insn't everything.
Bottom line is that I think that Yao as a Rocket is a sure thing, but it may not be the best thing for them.
